Dr. Gary Braness grew up in a family pest control business in Minnesota. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in biology at St. Cloud State University and a master’s degree in Entomology at North Dakota State University.
After nearly two years at the University of Illinois as an assistant entomologist, Braness returned to the family pest control business where he worked closely with his father and brother for approximately seven years. In 1986, Braness moved with his family to Indiana to pursue a Ph.D. in urban and industrial entomology at Purdue University under the direction of Dr. Gary Bennett.
After completing his studies at Purdue in 1990, Braness joined Bayer Corporation (now Bayer Environmental Science) as research and market development coordinator for the western region of the United States. In this position, he developed experimental compounds for registration and expanded existing registrations of Bayer products for the pest management industry. He also prepared training programs and provided product information to pest management professionals.
Braness is a member of the Entomological Society of America and Pi Chi Omega, the professional pest control fraternity. He is also involved in several state and national pest control associations. |
