Dr. Harold Harlan

Dr. Harold Harlan, Senior Entomologist for the National Pest Management Association (NPMA), earned is Ph.D. in Medical Entomology/Acarology in 1984 from The Ohio State University. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1994 after 25 years of active duty service as a Medical Entomologist, which included tours of duty in Vietnam and Saudi Arabia.

Harlan has authored or co-authored more than 35 scientific articles and is currently active more than a dozen scientific societies. He has been a Board Certified Entomologist (B.C.E.) or its equivalent predecessor (A.R.P.E) continuously since 1973, and is currently certified in both Medical/Veterinary and Urban Entomology. He is a current member of the honorary/service fraternities Pi Chi Omega and Sigma Xi.

Harlan has a rather broad base of experience in entomology, and has worked in applied situations with a variety of technical subjects, including Lyme disease and hantavirus. He joined the NPMA as a Entomologist in January 1997. He lives in Crownsville, Maryland, with his wife of 35 years, Norma. They have two grown sons, Kevin and Jason.
