What is the difference between the 8th and 9th edition?
The primary difference between these two editions is a major reorganization of the chapters. Chapters were combined to discuss similar topics and to make the book more user-friendly. The 9th edition will have 24 chapters, while the 7th and 8th editions had 30 chapters.
How were the authors chosen?
In general, it is preferable that different persons revise chapters in different editions. This preference is intended to keep the book fresh. Exceptions to the preference are such persons as Dr. Robert Corrigan (Rats & Mice) and Dr. Michael Potter (Termites) as they are recognized experts in their field and they should continue to revise and update the same chapters.
Also, the Mallis Handbook includes persons who are knowledgeable but are not so well known in the industry. In this way, Mallis can help these persons further their stature in the industry and bring their perspectives into the book.
Is the Mallis Handbook used as an educational tool at the University level?
The University of Florida uses the handbook in their Urban Entomology classes as a textbook. The book is very comprehensive and discusses many topics a professor might want to cover in an urban entomology course.
Will the Mallis Handbook be available on CD-ROM?
The Mallis Handbook will be available on CD-ROM. In addition to the CD ROM version, a workbook is being written to accompany the Handbook as a teaching and training tool for pest control operators and universities.
